Tiger Shark Galeocerdo cuvier


Habitats

Tiger sharks are found in many tropical and temperate waters, and it is especially common around central Pacific islandsLarge specimens can grow to as much as 20 to 25 feet in length and weigh more than 1,900 pounds.




Niche

They have an excellent senses of sight and smell to hunt their prey.


Diet and feeding strategy


They have sharp, highly serrated teeth and powerful jaws that allow them to crack the shells of sea turtles and clams. All tiger sharks generally swim slowly to make them difficult for prey to detect them in some habitats,They are also especially well camouflaged against dark backgrounds. 

The tiger shark is an apex predator and has a reputation for eating anything.


Conservation status


They have extremely low repopulation rates, and therefore may be highly susceptible to fishing pressure. They are listed as near threatened throughout their range.
